My Story

Who is Julie Carroll?

Hi everyone! Julie Carroll here. Helping people improve their well-being is my calling. Please read my story below to get to know me a little better. Here we go...

The Early Years

I was born in a very small farming town in Northwest Ohio named Whitehouse. I was the youngest of three girls. My Mother was a teacher in my primary school.  My father was a chemist, inventor, and executive.  Family and community meant everything in my life and gave me a wonderful foundation.

During this time, I met the most beautiful boy, ever. His name was Kevin (more on him later) and we dated. Being three and a half years older, Kevin graduated from college and was off to New York City to work on Wall Street. I attended college too where I studied Art and Design.

My First Career

I had many jobs in the fashion industry. I’ll never forget working for Mitzelfeld’s Department Store in Rochester, MI and hearing Mr. Mitzelfeld say to me, “Julie, you are the best salesperson we’ve ever had”. He gave me great responsibility and I moved into a management and buyer role. I loved that job. They expected excellence and I loved the challenge.

Personal Life

I feel fortunate to have been married three times. My first husband died of melanoma. We had a speed boat and we loved being on the water in our younger days in Michigan. Then, careers brought us to New Jersey, where he got his pilot’s license and we flew all along the eastern shore.

Shortly after my husband passed, I married a man who had a love of traveling, like me.  So, we traveled the world. We got married. We traveled more. We lived large. We moved to Morehead City, North Carolina in 2004. Our marriage failed.

Then, in the summer of 2018, after 33 years, I reconnected with Kevin, that beautiful boy that I dated back in 1985. At that time, he was looking to move his startup, Placement Loop, to a city with a strong entrepreneurial environment. So, I took him on a tour of Raleigh, NC. It was as if we never stopped dating! Best friends and in love, again. Now, I can proudly call him my husband!

Health Care Advocacy & Hospice

As I fought for my first husband’s life, I discovered that I was very good at being a health care advocate. I learned how to research clinical trials, treatments and surgery, organizing and orchestrating physicians and home health care. I was calm, strong and sensible when most people struggle.

Since this experience I have gone on to advocate for many people and volunteered at hospice to help people “cross”. I found that this is all a part of the cycle of life - a beautiful gift.

My New Career

Kevin inspired me to bring my compassion for people’s health well-being to the insurance side of health care. Now, I am licensed as a medicare, life, and health agent. Also, Kevin’s startup, Placement Loop, enables interactions that improve workers career well-being. Soon, it became apparent to me that many workers need coaching to get their financial house in order. Now, I offer financial coaching services too!

The bottom line is that I founded Life Stage Planning because I’ve been there — widowed, alone, married, retired, and divorced. I’ve had to reinvent myself and rediscover my independence. If I can integrate my career, financial, and health goals to improve my overall well-being, you can too! Let me show you how.

That is my story and how my life experiences have prepared me to start Life Stage Planning. I feel blessed as it encompasses everything that I am passionate about.
